About the Author

Allen R. Angel received his AAS in Electrical Technology from New York City Community College. He then received his BS in Physics and his MS in Mathematics from SUNY at New Paltz, and he took additional graduate work at Rutgers University. He is Professor Emeritus at Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York where he served for many years as the chair of the Mathematics Department. He also served as the Assistant Director of the National Science Foundation Summer Institutes at Rutgers University from 1967–73. He served as the President of the New York State Mathematics Association of Two Year Colleges (NYSMATYC) and the Northeast Vice President of the American Mathematics Association of Two Year Colleges (AMATYC). He is the recipient of many awards including a number of NISOD Excellence in Teaching Awards, NYSMATYC's Outstanding Contributions to Mathematics Education Award, and AMATYC's President Award. Allen enjoy tennis, worldwide travel, and visiting with his children and granddaughter.

Dennis Runde received his BS and MS in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin—Platteville and Milwaukee, respectively. He has a PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of South Florida. He has been teaching�for twenty years at State College of Florida, Manatee, and Sarasota Counties and for ten years�at Saint Stephen's Episcopal School. Besides coaching little league baseball,�his other interests include history,�politics, fishing, canoeing, and cooking. He and his wife Kristin stay busy keeping up with their three sons–Alex, Nick, and Max.

access code!

Make sure you know whether or not you need the access code from this book for the MyLab/homework help section. If the code is exposed, it's probably been used. If the code is used, you would then have to buy a separate, new access code and those are pricey also. Just a heads up since there are new books out there which aren't that much more expensive than a used one and you can get the access code included. :)

Never Judge a book by it's cover

I am currently in Engineering at the University of Waterloo, and forced to take a C++ course. I was nervous at first, but the cover of this book helped me a little. The cover is kind of cheasy, but the cover holds the best written programming book I have ever read. The ideas are simplified and analogies used wisely. The questions were even good enough for the teacher to give on the assignments! If you are learning C++, or want to refresh then this book is a MUST!

It's alright...

This is a very academic book. So beware.
We used it in our C++ course which followed along with fine. The teacher kept the pace going by doing his own created examples and lab assignments and towards the end the pace heated up a bit as we went on to OOP, which in the book is a bit weak, so you had to basically take full-on notes.
What the book does is basically set out the structures in C++ over a series of long explanations. I'd say it waffles on a lot but that's the nature of a lot of academic books regardless of subject.
It's better explained as a good read from cover to cover but not as a stop and go source of reference. If your angle is more "teach yourself" go for one of the wrox or o'reilly titles.
If you're completely new to programming there are easier languages to learn first. C++ is a bit of a sledgehammer because it is hardcore.

My 2 year old grandson loves this book. Not only is the story "w"onderful but the lesson about "earning" the wagon is "w"onderful, too. I really can't recommend this series of books enough. Grandmother/retired teacher

Handy kindle edition but wish the TOC had alphabet links do so much scrolling was not necessary. Otherwise invaluable text for those seeking maker's mark identification on Mexican jewelry.

It solidified my belief that coincidences happen for a reason and are not just random happenstance. I have since ventured into other areas such as sychronicity within the psychology realm. After my husband passed away at the age of 61, I have experienced many unusual signs and numbers that have made me realize that there is a natural rhythm to the universal to which one must be in tune to for our pursuit of our own destiny. I have been extremely comforted by many of these signs.

Crikey, left me speechless, the basics of quantum physics, related by Deepak in layman's terms was the perfect base of information needed for me to totally understand the entire concept of meditation....something that I now realize I haven't understood at all until now. I keep repaying these discs and learn more every time...I've always been an arden admirer of Deepak Chopra and will continue purchasing his books and discs.
