About the Author
Kennedy Shaw was born on 26 October 1901. In the 1920s and 1930s he contributed to the exploration of the Libyan Desert in the area around the south west of modern Egypt. When the war broke out he used his skills and knowledge in the LRDG. He later served in the Intelligence Corps and with the SAS, reaching the rank of major. He died in 1979.

seems like a great buy

At first glance, seems like a great buy. Learn how to use different kanji for the situation hand. But then, realize after buying it, no explaination sometimes when only two or more kanji are listed, without any explanation differentiating them!?
In these cases, you know there are alternatives, but you must look up the differences in another dictionary.
My copy is sitting unused as a result.

Nice book...

This is a good book for care of many varanid species especially if you are into the smaller dwarf species that are gaining in popularity. It is geared towards an Australian audience with terms and items they would use "Down Under" so keep that in mind. I was a little thrown off by the Varanus prasinus on the cover. I thought wow maybe the author is going to cover an Indo-Australian group of varanids, but alas he did not. No mention of the V. prasinus on the cover. In the Authors defense, the Book does say "Australian" monitors. As a V. prasinus & kordensis keeper, I was crossing my fingers. I gambled and lost. The book is good and of course if you collect books on these amazing and wonderful lizards, then this book should grace your collection.

I would recommend this product to ANYONE considering keeping any type of Australian monitor. the description boasts a vast and broad knowledge catalogue and it delivers every bit of it! I was surprised and satisfied with this book and still refer to information it provides constantly.

Best Sports Med Book

I am a PGY4 in Physiatry (university of toronto) and this is the best sports medicine book I have. A must buy for anyone in a related field.
PROS: Well written, easy to ready, details physiology and explaniation with anatomy. Love the hard cover (makes it last).
CONS: Big, would have liked more physical exam tests and their sensitivity/specificity.
OVERALL: If you are thinking about this book, BUY IT. Everyone that I know that has this book has not regretted it.

Great for Primary Care!

I'm a third year FM resident, who bought this book as a reference and also to accompany me on an ortho/sports med rotation. I'm nowhere near to covering all of the material, but I have read a few of the chapters that I feel are more "high yield" (knee pain, shoulder pain, hand pain). These are great, and fit hand in hand with what I'm learning from the ortho doc I'm working with (she's hardcore...treated many high level athletes and has been the team doc for a few olympic teams).

Some of the chapters also offer photographs and descriptions of PT/strengthening exercises for certain conditions. I do wish they talked more about reading specific x-rays, and also about joint injections (maybe they do and I haven't gotten there yet??). The book comes with a subscription to their website, which is not yet up and running...the go live date keeps getting pushed back. The website it supposed to have videos of exams (there are also pictures with descriptions in the book), among other things).

Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. I think it will make a great reference for questions that arrise around patient care of sports med/musculoskeletal issues. Part of the book is organized by "regional problems, " (ie. where is the pain) which make it quick to look things up based on a patient's complaint.

This is great for helping with clinical reasoning when presented with a "problem area". Chapters are grouped into areas of the body, and sorted into common clinical conditions. Tests are nicely described.
Some more anatomical pictures would be helpful, and I can't get the online component to work...

Elegant and revert, but not very portable

This Bible is so attractive I actually want to read it more. Really beautiful typography and a nice cream color to the pages which are thicker and more opaque than in many other Bibles. I love the cover imagery, too. The whole thing is quite elegant and reverent, as it should be. The Revised Standard Version, Second Catholic Edition is clearly the definitive English Catholic Bible.

The only caveat I'd suggest is that this isn't the most portable edition you'll own. It's quite big and thick. It's probably not the kind of Bible you'll take with you to Mass or drop into your backpack. Think of it as your nicest home Bible.

I was surprised that this was a rigid hard back and not a more flexible cover like my Daily Roman Missal. A softcover leather doesn't seem to be available but that might make it slightly more portable and easier to flip through.

Beautiful minimalist RSV-CE2

A beautiful edition of the RSV-CE2 version of the Bible, most favoured by scholars, academics, and those who prefer traditional (non-"PC"/non-feminist) language.

Bound in a soft, supple, Cordovan (burgundy-brown coloured) "bonded leather".
Pages are easy-on-the-eyes cream-coloured, and of a slightly heavier weight than the usual very thin Bible "India" paper.

Excellent for Lectio Divina, this is clearly more of a "reading" Bible, rather than one used for traditional study purposes due to sparse footnotes and very limited page margins (please see my photos).
Several full colour maps are included, as well as an informative multi-page Introduction.

This Bible is printed in the United States of America.

I own multiple Catholic Study Bibles, but needed one simply for reading/Lectio Divina.
Between the clear, readable font (approx. 9pt. serif), and portability (size and weight), this minimalist Bible suits my purposes perfectly.

I can easily recommend this lovely, yet practical soft-bound, leather edition of the Ignatius Revised Standard Version-Catholic Edition Bible.

Get one while you can!

This is a review of "The Ignatius Bible: Revised Standard Version, Second Catholic Edition Leather Bound " ISBN: 978-0898709360.

Very satisfied with this beautiful Bible that I just received today. My only complaint is that I wish it had wider margins for notes, --we Catholics never get that right!

For $22.14 you get:

1) A leather-bound Bible which lays nice and flat for easy reading.

2) Sewn Binding.

3) Two red quality ribbons that are NOT too short.

4) Light/Somewhat cream-colored & Gold-edged pages with minimal page bleed.

5) A very nice double-columned format with chapter titles.

6) Nine maps which include:

1. The Nations of Genesis Chapter 10
2. The Exodus from Egypt
3. The Conquest of Canaan
4. The Kingdom Years
5. Jerusalem - From David to Christ
6. Palestine in Christ's Time
7. Paul's First and Second Journeys
8. Paul's Third and Fourth Journeys
