I was very glad to see this book printed in its second edition ...

As an Agile Coach I constantly refer my clients to Bob's book on Scrum Product Ownership. My first edition copy has been retired. It became very ragged and dog eared from all the times I've lent it out to those eager to learn more about the hardest role in scrum. I was very glad to see this book printed in its second edition and have since acquired multiple copies.

The book does a fantastic job explaining the day-to-day role, responsibilities and task performed by a product owner. The book takes a very methodical approach to product ownership introducing ideas and concepts to consider for both the novice and the experienced alike. The book covers all the basics of the product owner role and how it operates within the scrum frame work. However, the real value of Bob's material is his approach, which is practical, pragmatic and enlightening. No matter what agile framework your organization is considering or where your organization is in its agile maturity journey you should read this book. I've read it many times and with each new reading I'm left with many ideas on how to improve the role of product ownership for those whom I coach.

Provides fantastic clarity on being an effective Product Owner

My project recently adopted Scrum practises and the Product Owner role; however, beyond a one-day introduction to the Agile methodology and aggressive self-study, we didn't have a solid foundation on Scrum or Agile. I am assuming the Product Owner role in a surrogate context since our project is for an external client that has no Agile or Scrum background, but is keen to follow our lead. As a result, I was somewhat anxious about being effective in this role. I have been following Bob's blogs and articles for quite some time and upon seeing this book, I did not hesitate for a second to purchase it because I have always found his advice to be practical and logical and deep. I am incredibly grateful that I did because it gave me both the "big picture" and practical guidance on being an effective PO that I was desperately seeking. My book now has about 30 post-it tabs to mark pages that I consider key gems and at one point I was marking every other page and came to realize I simply need to read the book several times to help keep everything in memory. Ultimately one needs to be on a project and live through the experiences and specific team nuances to determine how to adopt your Scrum practices most effectively, but this book was invaluable in setting the stage for me and is continually used as a reference when I run into a "practice" issue and think, "what would Bob do"? I also really appreciated the real-world examples provided throughout the book since they provide guidance from a different, and again very practical, perspective.

Bob also continually explains "why" which adds another layer of depth and understanding to the material that I often find lacking in other professional texts. It is a very easy read but readers should have some basic background on the Agile methodology and Scrum concepts before jumping into this.

I have recommended this book to my manager and peers, and everyone has been impressed by this book. I believe that any member of a team that is or plans to practice Scrum would benefit greatly from this book since it so clearly conveys the complexity and criticality of the role that every team member needs to understand and respect in order for Scrum to work! I also don't believe that it is possible for "one" person to fulfill the PO role (which I consider to be the engine of Scrum), which is why it is important for all team members to understand it.

Also, there is no other book out there like this one.

Product management is a vital ingedient for really successful Agile teams at scale. Great advice. Easy to read.

I am an Agile Coach and ScrumMaster. I've been using Agile approached to software development since 1998. I think it is fair so say that Agile methods are now a mainstream approach. Teams are getting much better at delivering working software BUT I've come across a number of teams struggling to deliver software that is really valuable to the business and end users. We get lots of features but don't get the expected sales or adoption. So one direction to seek a solution to this challenge is to look at how we go about selecting the features for our sprint backlog. Some teams most probably need to get much better at managing the "Product" aspects of their work. I think Robert has written a great book for those who what to explore that dimension further. I found the book easy to read. It's filled with lots to great stories which enabled me to visualise the advice in the context of real teams.
The other theme in this book is how to scale Agile approaches. The book contains lots of good suggestions and examples of how to setup and collaborate with Agile teams at scale. Great book. Highly recommend.

I Am Incomplete Without You, a thought provoking soul searching journal!

I AM INCOMPLETE WITHOUT YOU by IAIN S THOMAS is, in my opinion, a very unique, in the words of the author, "Interactive Poetry Journal". If you look very closely, you will note that his name in NOT on the cover, very unusual but here's why. It's interactive so that means he is not the only author. You are his co-author and there is a space for you to write your name on the inside title page. How cool is that!

This book is so so much more than a poetry journal. Eah page poses a question or a statement and asks you to write your reply in the below space, of course either in poetry, if you so wish, or prose. For example, the second page asks you to answer a not so simple question... What was the sky like the first time you fell in love? Another entry asks you to write a poem about... The Ghost You Left Behind. Many of his questions are very thought-provoking. Like this one... What will you say to the love of your life when you're old and he or she will not hear every word you say?

I can imagine 100 uses for this book. Perhaps you're a writer and you are having a tough time coming up with the next big topic. Maybe you're going to a party and you're looking for a real tough ice breaker, something the group can sink their teeth into. Maybe you like to write and you enjoy responding to deeper topics. You may have a good friend that you'd like to send this book to; I know I do, that's my plan. Perhaps your friend is in a place in his or her life where he or she is doing some real soul-searching. This may be just the thing needed. Iain has put a lot of thought into this project. I have a good friend that I know will love this book and I think you will too!

Incredible!

This DIY book is the most beautiful one I have ever had the honor of purchasing. It's not childish, like the "Wreck This Journal" series. It's deep, personal, and so beautifully put together. I've had a lot of fun filling the pages, and I'm still not done yet. I own every single one of Mr. Thomas' published works, and I will most certainly be purchasing more as he releases them.

About the Author
Paul Morand (1888-1976) was born in Paris and, after studying at the �cole des Sciences Politiques, joined the diplomatic corps, serving in London, Rome, Berne and Bucharest. 3.5 stars, okay, but just not for me. I was tired after reading/skimming it

For me, this book was just okay. I never really got into the main character. He just basically made me tired and bored.

I thought after his marriage he had slowed down and that he had become normal, but then it wasn't long and he was back to his original ways. I didn't like the ending, but what else in his condition could he have done? He did the right thing.

I would like to to thank Pushkin Press and Net Galley for allowing me the opportunity to read and review this e-galley in exchange for an honest review. I would recommend this book, I think there are people out there who would get into this book a little better than I did.

NOT FLASHCARDS

I was excited to buy these flashcards to complement my reading of the textbook and reinforce what I had just read. But these cards are word for word the textbook written out on individual cards. Seriously??? What a waste of money. I recommend the textbook but I would not buy these cards if you already have the book. Literally word for word the same. Very lazy on the part of the writers. There was so much wasted potential.

TERRIBLE QUALITY

these cards are PAPER thin, they rip easily. It comes in a very small box. Once you open it, you can not put all the cards back in with out ripping or bending them. The information on the card is fine, but i could easily have bought a small paper book. This product is TRULY a piece of crap. I never write reviews but i feel the need to warn people that if you were looking for some cards that you can keep in your pocket to read whenever you have a spare moment, DO NOT BUY THIS!!

These are not flashcards.

I really don't think they understand what 'flashcards' are. The majority of the cards are just information from the book printed on smaller sheets of paper (yeah, flimsy paper) - front and back, the two being unrelated passages with no question and answer format. And they're not quick review summaries, most of these things have multiple paragraphs of text. There are a few case cards that actually prompt you like an actual flashcard, but these are unfortunately rare. I guess if you stapled them together it might make a decent review booklet. Don't waste your money, there are far better options.
